This Yom Ha’atzmaut wasn’t the celebration anyone imagined.
There were no flags fluttering from balconies, no barbecues, fireworks, or joyful songs. Instead, smoke choked the air and fear hung heavy as wildfires ripped through central Israel. As the flames approached our town, we packed our bags and waited. Our phones buzzed with evacuation alerts, road closures, and updates on emergency shelters. We watched the horizon glow orange from our balcony, the acrid smell of smoke slipping through the windows.

Our children looked to us for answers, but we had few. Like thousands of other families, we were bracing for the unknown.
But not everyone had a home to evacuate from or a place to go.
In nearby Mevo Choron, 100 Thai agricultural workers were evacuated alongside the residents. These young men came to Israel to work our land, to contribute to our economy and culture. But when disaster struck, they had no relatives, no guest rooms, no support network waiting with food, blankets, or comfort. They were brought to a local high school and left to sleep on thin mattresses scattered across the gym floor.
When Your Help Turns Compassion into Action
That’s where you came in.
When our kids heard about the Thai workers, there was no hesitation. They dove into our pantry and started packing bags with snacks, homemade food, games, and clothes. Without being asked, they transformed fear into kindness.

Late that night, we brought the supplies to the school. The response was immediate, their eyes lit up, tired faces brightened, laughter returned. It wasn’t the Yom Ha’atzmaut celebration we’d planned, but somehow it felt even more meaningful.
And then, something incredible happened.
We shared a few photos. Just a few simple moments: our kids packing, the food spread out, the smiles. By the next morning, we had over 30 messages from friends, neighbors, even strangers, asking how they could help. People started collecting essentials for firefighters, setting up real-time needs lists, donating supplies, offering transportation. A community, once subdued by smoke and fear, came alive again with purpose.
This is what your donations make possible: rapid, real-time action when people need it most.
Why Being Ready Matters
Because of your support, when emergencies arise, we don’t wait for red tape. We act.
We bring food to the displaced. Comfort to the forgotten. Hope to those without a home or safety net. Whether it’s foreign workers caught in chaos, families with nowhere to go, or children who just need a little light during dark times—you help us show up. Fast.
Yom Ha’atzmaut reminded us that true celebration is not in fireworks or fanfare, but in the small, powerful acts of kindness that define this country. In the ways we rally for one another. In the ways we refuse to let anyone be forgotten.

This Is Israel. This Is You.
A dear friend flew in from the U.S. to be here for Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha’atzmaut. Not for the parties, but to stand with us—to show his support and solidarity in these difficult times. That kind of quiet heroism matters. So does yours.
As Israel continues to face challenges on all fronts, we must continue to hold the whole picture: our soldiers, the hostages, their families, but also the displaced, the invisible, the helpers who might not make the headlines but hold our society together.
This Yom Ha’atzmaut wasn’t loud or glamorous. But it was real. And it was beautiful.
Thanks to you, we were ready.
Let’s make sure we always are.
