Yesterday, with the incredible support of our generous donors, we had the privilege of hosting a heartfelt BBQ for soldiers currently serving in the army—young men and women, just 18, 19, and 20 years old, from the search and rescue unit. These brave soldiers dedicate their lives to saving others, and it was an honor to spend an evening showing our appreciation for their service.

BBQ for soldiers

Since the tragic events of October 7, this age group has borne an unimaginable weight of loss. They’ve lost not only their comrades in service but also friends and peers. This reality hit close to home when one of our organizers, who lives in Israel, spoke to her own 18-year-old daughter. During their conversation, the daughter recognized the soldiers’ unit and shared that her friend, who heroically defended the Zikim base on October 7, was part of that very same unit. It was a moment of deep emotion for all of us, as we realized we were barbecuing for soldiers who had endured so much loss and heartache in just a few short months.

As the evening unfolded, we shared this story with our volunteers and donors, helping them understand the immense sacrifices these soldiers have made. We spoke about their friends and commanders, many of whom were just 20 years old, who made the ultimate sacrifice on that fateful day. The soldiers expressed their gratitude for keeping their friends’ memories alive, and we were humbled to see how much it meant to them.

Despite the sorrow woven into their stories, the evening was filled with moments of joy, unity, and love. As we hugged, danced, and shared laughter, these young heroes reminded us of their resilience and strength. They told us that the evening was exactly what they needed—a break from their heavy responsibilities, a chance to feel supported, and a moment to simply smile.

The soldiers couldn’t thank us enough, but truly, we owe them our deepest gratitude. Their courage and dedication inspire us daily, and it’s because of your generous support that we’re able to continue bringing smiles to their faces.

To everyone who donates, volunteers, or supports us in any way—thank you. Your contributions make nights like this possible, where we can show our soldiers that they are not alone and that their sacrifices are not forgotten. Let’s continue to stand together, bringing smiles and comfort to these extraordinary young men and women who give so much for all of us.
