For Aviel, giving back has always been a part of who she is. At the beginning of the war, she and her father, along with her two sisters, would go out and grill meals for soldiers, showing their gratitude and support for those defending our country. She loved the experience—knowing that she could provide comfort, even in a small way, to the brave men and women serving on the front lines.

So, when it came time to plan her family day in honor of her Bat Mitzvah, Aviel knew exactly what she wanted to do. She wanted her celebration to include a chesed (kindness) component, and without hesitation, she asked if they could once again grill for soldiers.

Partnering with Smiles for the Kids

With the help of Smiles for the Kids, Aviel and her family organized a special BBQ dinner for 60 soldiers stationed on the border of the Binyamin region. These soldiers are responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the checkpoint and surrounding villages, and Aviel wanted to show them just how much their service was appreciated.

Her family took charge of the entire meal, preparing a delicious menu packed with meats and salads, all made fresh on the base. As the food sizzled on the grill, the soldiers gathered, enjoying the warmth of not just the meal, but the gratitude behind it.

More Than Just a Meal

For Aviel, this was more than just a dinner—it was a meaningful way to mark her transition into Jewish adulthood. Becoming a Bat Mitzvah isn’t just about celebration; it’s about taking on new responsibilities, embracing mitzvot, and recognizing the impact one can have on others.

By choosing to include chesed in her Bat Mitzvah, Aviel demonstrated a deep understanding of what it means to give back. Her family’s act of kindness was a reminder that even in times of challenge, unity, support, and gratitude can bring light to those who serve.

As the night ended and the last bites were enjoyed, the soldiers expressed their appreciation—not just for the meal, but for the love and care behind it. It was a beautiful evening of connection, gratitude, and giving, proving that the best celebrations are the ones that bring joy to others.

Mazel Tov, Aviel! May your kindness and generosity continue to inspire those around you.
