Today is Father’s Day in America.

Back in the Five Towns, fathers are sleeping in. Kids are taping cards to the fridge. There will be barbecues, phone calls, and bad ties.

Here in Israel, it is a workday. Hundreds of thousands of fathers are on base. I am on the Gaza border, doing the job I was called up to do.

I want to tell you what happened here, because you are part of it.

This morning the head of intelligence walked over to our position. He came to thank me. He asked me to pass the thanks along to you, the people who gave.

The unit had picked up chatter near the base. Something was moving. Before the guys went out, they put up the drone. The same kind of equipment your support helped put in their hands.

The drone found an ambush waiting for them.

The mission was called off. The whole area went on alert. The men who would have walked into that ambush are alive tonight. A number of them are fathers.

Your gift did that. Today. On the ground, near Gaza. Real lives, still here.

The unit is training more drone operators now. The goal is a fleet that can watch over all of northern Gaza. More eyes in the sky means more sons making it back to their fathers, and more fathers making it back to their kids.

That is the Father’s Day I am thinking about this year.

If you want to help build the fleet, the link is below. Every donation goes straight to the field. None of it goes to overhead.
